Curriculum
Pupils are taught primarily in two classes:
Key Stage One (4+ to 7 years) -Reception, Y1 & Y2
Key Stage Two (7+ to 11 years) - Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6
On two and a half days each week Y3 and Y4 pupils are taught by our part-time teacher,
Mrs. Pickles. This allows us to focus our teaching precisely to the needs of each pupil in
class sizes of 5-12 pupils.
Each Key Stage has their own separate teaching and learning areas. The KS1 classroom has
been specifically built and fitted out for the needs of the younger children. All areas have
been specially designed and equipped to match the differing needs of our youngest pupils.
The main KS2 classroom contains the library, computer suite and an Art and D.T. area.
Mrs.Pickle’s classroom is also used for music lessons, quiet study and as a television room.
We place a strong emphasis upon English, mathematics and I.C.T., but still maintain a
broad and balanced curriculum. Some subjects are taught separately and some are taught
together as part of a topic. English and maths are taught for at least one hour each every
day. The other subjects taught are: science, art, geography, history, design & technology,
R.E., P.E. and music.
Pupils within a class usually all work on similar aspects of a subject at the same time
but at different levels appropriate to their own ability. In this way we can ensure that
each individual pupil is challenged and extended.
Our curriculum plans for all subjects in Foundation, KS1 and KS2 have been
rewritten following the introduction of the revised National Curriculum in September
2000.
These curriculum plans outline programmes of study for the next four years and are
available in school for parents to read.
